New futsal indoor football course for youngsters at The Voyager Academy

A NEW programme of football sessions, based on one of the fastest growing indoor sports in the world, is to be launched in Peterborough.

Sports and physical activities provider Sports Xtra is to run the Saturday morning futsal courses at The Voyager Academy, in Mountsteven Avenue, Walton.

Sports Xtra director Sara Strid-Coughlan said: "I am so excited about bringing futsal to the young children in Peterborough.

"Futsal, which is immensely popular in other parts of the world such as South America, Spain and Portugal, where many great football players come from, is now growing in the UK.

"This indoor, small-sided football game is played with a slightly different football.

"It's slower and doesn't bounce as much, which makes the game more interactive and gives the children opportunities to develop their skills quicker.

"Our futsal courses are about having fun, learning new skills and encouraging children to fulfil their potential."

The first course starts on Saturday, February 25, for six weeks. Follow-on courses will start on April 21 and June 16.

A session for three to four-year-olds runs from 10am to 10.50am, while the session for five to seven-year-olds runs from 11am to 11.50am.

The cost of the course is £30 for six sessions and parents are encouraged to stay and watch and even take part in the game.
